DIOGO BORTOLAZZO DE ALMEIDA

Diogo is a Brazilian native who grew up in the city of Piracicaba, São Paulo. From a very young age, like so many Brazilian kids, he was passionate about the sport of soccer. He played for local clubs around his hometown until he was eleven years old. At that age, he was scouted and selected to join the world-renowned Santos FC youth academy. He spent three years with Santos FC training, playing all around Brazil. He lived in the same place and trained in the very same system that produced some of the best players in the world, including Neymar Jr., Robinho, Diego Ribas, Paulo Henrique Ganso and the legendary Pele.

After three years with Santos FC academy, he moved to São Paulo FC who had an even better infrastructure and player development system to continue pursue his dream of becoming a professional soccer player. São Paulo FC is also known for producing great soccer players from its academy development system and produced players like Kaka, Casemiro, Hernanes, Oscar, David Neres e Lucas Moura. At the age of seventeen, after spending three year with São Paulo FC, he moved to the U.S. to play soccer and pursue an education. Diogo received an athletic scholarship to attend The Oakridge School in Arlington Texas. While attending high school, Diogo played club soccer for FC Dallas Academy (Dallas Inter FC) and the Dallas Texans 90’.

Diogo was recruited by some of the biggest collegiate programs in the U.S., and ended up choosing to attend Southern Methodist University on a full athletic scholarship. Diogo played all four years of college soccer at SMU, and graduated with double major - Bachelors in Markets & Culture and Bachelors in Spanish. During his senior year in 2011, Diogo was voted Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year, All-Conference USA First Team, NSCAA All-Midwest First Team performer, and SMU Student Athlete of the year.

Also during his senior year, Diogo was drafted (24th overall) in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft by Real Salt Lake to play professionally. During his experience as a professional player, Diogo shared the field and locker room with players like Kyle Beckerman, Nick Rimando and Javier Morales. He also had the opportunity to play against iconic players, such as David Beckham (LA Galaxy) and Thierry Henry (New York Red Bulls). During his coaching career, Diogo has coached at a club level throughout the DFW area, and has 7+ years of experience with developing and training players with personalized soccer sessions.

Diogo has a wife named Emily, and they recently welcomed a baby girl, Mila, to the family! He is looking forward to being her first soccer coach!
